Aims

The principal objective of the current AWEA constitution is: the advancement, encouragement, and provision of adult and community education that promotes a just and equitable society, in accordance with te Tiriti o Waitangi. This incorporates:

  • community education as defined by the learners
  • a just and equitable society in which people are not advantaged by virtue of age, class, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc; at present we are focusing on advantages based on being members of the majority cultures
  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Māori Text) indicates rights and responsibilities which form the basis of a relationship that allowed tangata Tiriti to migrate here on certain terms.
  • The Treaty Resource Centre is a major part of the AWEA’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi; we are also committed to ongoing relationships with tangata whenua.
